Some accountants and small businesses calculate payroll manually — which involves calculating taxes, remitting cheques to the government, etc.
We’ve found that it’s possible to automate 90% of this using payroll software like Wagepoint, and the time saved — combined with the reduced risk of human error — is well worth the additional cost. -
There are a ton of payroll providers out there — and finding the best fit can be overwhelming. Wagepoint was created specifically for small-to-midsize enterprises (e.g. from 1 to 50 employees). Most other established payroll platforms were designed for much bigger businesses.
Personally, we love that it’s user-friendly, fast to set up, has really good customer support, and integrates with Xero (our bookkeeping software of choice). -
We’ve found that Wagepoint is usually a great fit for any business with 1 to 50 employees. There could be some unique cases where we’d suggest an alternative, but it’s rare. Guindi does support other payroll software, so in those situations, it wouldn’t keep us from working together!

Wagepoint does a lot of the heavy lifting (tax calculations, government remittances, direct deposits for net pay, etc.) but there is still quite a bit more that goes into payroll in general. For example: updating minimum wage, CNESST/workers comp rates, managing vacation entitlements, recording bonuses, issuing ROEs, changing salaries, and so on...
We compare it to an airplane running on auto-pilot mode: it does a pretty good job of flying for itself, but you still want a trained pilot on board to guide the process and make corrections & adjustments when needed.
